What to Expect

After you have made your appointment, Dr. Fenlason will call you on the way to confirm an exact time.  Once she is at your home, she will meet your family and your pet and make sure everyone is comfortable.  There is some minor paper work that will need to be handled, and we will take payment at this time.

After the initial meeting, she will begin the process of administering the sedation to your pet.  This is the time to say goodbye as your pet will peacefully go to sleep, ending the suffering and slowly leaving their body behind.

We will make arrangements for cremation if you have chosen for us to do so.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is it time?

This is the most difficult question we get, and an important one. Often, we tell families that there are signs that help when determining your pet’s quality of life such as:

1. Is your pet eating and drinking?
2. Can they go to the bathroom on their own and/or are they having difficulties with the bathroom?
3. Can your dog or cat move on their own? Any mobility issues?
4. Does your pet have a diagnosis or a chronic condition?
5. Do you have the opinion of another veterinarian?

Are your appointments rushed?

No, but we do have limited time that our Doctor is available. One of the reasons we are able to make this service affordable is that we do have limited time the Doctor can spend in your home. Other services give families more time, but those services are expensive.

How are you able to make your appointments affordable?

We keep our appointment times shorter without sacrificing standard of care.  We do not offer books, candles or other items some services provide in an effort to keep our costs lower and affordable. Paw prints are available at additional costs.

What is your medical procedure like?

The euthanasia is a two-step process.  We believe that a sedation should be administered first.  This is a higher level of care than many veterinary hospitals.  Once the dog or cat is comfortably sedated, only then do we administer the euthanasia solution.

Why should I consider Home Euthanasia for my Dog or Cat?

We believe that pets should be able to say good bye in the comfort of their own home.  Your home is your pet’s world.  Often, dogs and cats are stressed when they go to the veterinary hospital.   They don’t have good memories.   At home they are comfortable and relaxed, and so is the family.  It is private and it’s home.
